TRUCK DISPATCH SERVICES IN TENNESSEE

Tennessee sits inside a day's drive of most of the U.S. population. Memphis is the world's air-cargo hub and Nashville is one of the fastest-growing distribution markets in the country — two very different freight personalities in one state.

TN REGULATIONS & COMPLIANCE

What carriers running Tennessee need to have in order. This is general guidance, not legal advice — but it's the checklist our dispatchers work from with you.

Intrastate authority (TDOT / TN Department of Safety)

Intrastate for-hire carriers register with the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and maintain an intrastate USDOT number.

Weight limits

80,000 lbs gross standard. Tennessee grants a 10% tolerance on certain non-interstate routes for specific commodity hauls; interstate limits remain federal.

Tennessee IFTA / IRP

Administered by the TN Department of Revenue. Quarterly IFTA filing; apportioned plates through the Vehicle Services Division.

Enforcement corridors

I-40, I-24, and I-65 carry heavy CMV enforcement with active weigh stations and PrePass. Log and hours-of-service audits are common at Knoxville and Jackson scales.

FILINGS & PERMITS CHECKLIST

  • TN intrastate registration
  • TN IFTA license
  • IRP apportioned plates
